The War In Iraq : A Legal Analysis: 2010

On March 20, 2003, after a year of very dramatic public discourse concerning

the appropriate response to Iraq’s continuing violation of its international

obligations under numerous UN Security Council resolutions, the United

States, together with the United Kingdom and a coalition of “willing” partners, including Australia, Denmark and Poland, launched Operation Iraqi Freedom

(OIF). OIF commenced the military operations intended to eliminate Saddam

Bitter Vietnam Vets Often Cause Hurtful Statements Detracting From Their Honor, Duty and Service

Often when the discussion of the War in Iraq comes up, a bitter Vietnam Veteran will school a younger member of our society. Unfortunately, they often say ask; “Did you serve in the military?” and when the younger man states; “No” then the bitter Vietnam Veteran will make mean-spirited comments as if the younger person is scum or the lowest form of society.

Not long ago, I witnessed such a conversation take place in a Coffee Shop and understood the position and perception of the anti-war Vietnam Veteran. Still, I felt that the young man who came from a military family himself, but grew up during a long peaceful period and did not serve in the military had a good point in his comments about the importance of US presence in World Crisis Areas and against rogue nation-states. The Vietnam Veteran told him;

Oh you feel a sense of entitlement, you are better than everyone else, you do not have to serve. There is no honor in that.
Indeed, the Vietnam Veteran had completely dishonored himself in a vindictive way due to his bitter emotional displacement. At one point in the chaotic discussion and argument – the Vietnam Veteran stated that he went to Vietnam for 1541 days and he killed other humans and he liked it.

Well, that’s all well and good, it is was a war and in war humans kill other humans, however, his attitude and negative energy now, really does nothing for his fallen comrades, the US Military or any living Vietnam Veteran today. It was a pathetic and disgusting display of personal character and goes against everything this nation stands for, if someone must belittle someone else who disagrees with them; then they are not noble gentlemen at all.

In fact, one could say that they themselves are the lowest form of citizen. We must judge others by their actions and words and not let anyone off the hook for hypocrisy. If one serves in the US Military, then that does not give them the right to belittle their fellow citizen who believes in a strong National Defense. I am appalled at what I witnessed and ask that the Vietnam Vets wake-up and chill-out, do not turn the nation against you. Sincerely, Lance.

Taking Chance

Taking Chance

Based on the true experiences of Lt. Colonel Michael Strobl, who wrote eloquently of them in a widely circulated 2004 article, Taking Chance is a profoundly emotional look at the military rituals taken to honor its war dead, as represented by a fallen Marine killed in Iraq, Lance Corporal Chance Phelps.Working as a strategic analyst at Marine Corps Base Quantico in VA, Lt. Col. Strobl (Kevin Bacon) learns that Phelps had once lived in his hometown, and volunteers to escort the body to its final resting place in Wyoming. As Strobl journeys across America, he discovers the great diligence and dignity in how the military, and all those involved with preparing and transporting the body, handle their duties. Equally important, he encounters hundreds of people affected by Chance’s death, a vast majority of whom never knew him.This collective grieving eventually causes Lt. Col. Strobl, a veteran of Desert Storm now assigned to office duty, to probe his own guilt about not re-deploying to Iraq for the current conflict. Arriving in Wyoming, Lt. Col. Strobl completes his catharsis when he encounters Chance’s gracious family and friends, and discovers an extraordinary outpouring of community support.

Dictatorship, Imperialism And Chaos

Dictatorship, Imperialism And Chaos

This is a concise, readable, yet rigorous history of Iraq since the end of the Iran-Iraq War and the Cold War to the present day by a well-regarded and serious Iraqi intellectual. Abdullah takes the reader through a chronological journey, exploring how Hussein came to power, the consequences of the Iran-Iraq war; how Hussein’s regime developed; the war in Kuwait; the devastation of Iraqi society under international sanctions; the US and allies’ invasion; the future implications for Iraqi society. Abdullah undercuts the widespread view that Iraq as a nation state is an artificial construct. Finally, the book also explores the relationship between Iraq’s economy and the ‘globalized’ economy of the post-1989 period.
